Alumni

...more than a school, a way of life.

Somerset House very often lives on in the hearts of those that have passed through this campus. Past Pupils are always most welcome to visit the school and we love hearing the recollections of all the things that make Somerset House such a special, unique place.

We hope that Past Pupils will follow us on social media (FB | IG) to see what the school is up to!

We are in the process of updating our Past Pupil Database and would love to hear from back Past Pupils!

We would be grateful if you could e-mail info@somersethouse.co.za to confirm (should you wish to):

  1. Your e-mail address and telephone number.
  1. Whether you would prefer us staying in touch via e-mail, WhatsApp or if you would prefer not to hear from us.
  1. Your year of entry into Somerset House and your year of exit.
  1. Your address (or country of residence).

Please also note the following:

  1. We have WhatsApp groups set up to reconnect Past Pupils – there is one for each decade in the school’s history (see attached). We will not automatically add your number unless you specifically ask us to.
  1. We would LOVE to hear some of your memories of Somerset House! Please feel free to share them with us.
  1. We will be establishing an Alumni Committee to assist in liaising with Past Pupils and to consider possible Alumni events that could be hosted at Somerset House. Please let us know if you would be interested in serving on this committee.
  1. Past Pupils are always most welcome to pop in to visit the campus. In the interest of all pupils on campus we do have Security guards in place at all entrances, so it’s best to make contact with us to set a day and time so that they are expecting you.

Please share this e-mail with any past pupils you still have a connection with! We have lost touch with too many people.

We look forward to engaging further.

For any queries, you can contact us at info@somersethouse.co.za

Mission

We aim to provide an environment and ethos within which children can thrive. We do this by providing the following:

  • A stimulating and challenging academic programme, emphasising child-centred education, and the development of life-long learning habits and self-discipline
  • A learning orientation in which creative and critical thinking skills are prioritised and curiosity and initiative are encouraged
  • A values-based environment which promotes respect, understanding and empathy, based on the school’s Christian heritage
  • Experiences and initiatives which foster a deep appreciation and celebration of diversity and inclusion
  • A comprehensive sporting, cultural, artistic, and extra-mural curriculum which both supplements and strengthens the academic programme
an extensive outdoor development programme which teaches self-awareness, leadership, courage, and a profound appreciation of the natural world
  • Highly-committed teachers and staff who demonstrate the highest standards of their craft and who care deeply for the children entrusted to them

Our Purpose

Who we are

Somerset House is an established, independent, and co-educational pre-primary and preparatory school (grades 000 to 7) situated in the heart of Somerset West.

Our extensive campus offers children a unique natural setting rich with trees and open spaces. Historical buildings house modern classrooms, specialised learning centres, technology hubs and a shared dining room, the heart of the school. Children find themselves in a safe and nurturing space in which self-belief, independent thought, and joy flourish.

Our motto, “Non nobis solum”, not for ourselves alone, is at the core of our ethos. It is lived, cherished, and celebrated by staff, pupils and their families, alumni, and friends of the school.
